Consumed.
YOU should have seen him
Lying alone in helpless silence in the night
You should have seen him
You would have seen his eye reflecting in the lightSo for the old man
Ashes to ashes, earth to earth and dust to dust
No one will see me
No one with guilt to share, no secret soul to trustLouder and louder
Till I could tell the sound was not within my ears
You should have seen me
You would have seen my eyes grow white and cold with fearHeard all the things in Heaven and Earth
I've seen many things in Hell
But his vulture's eye of a cold pale blue
Is the eye of the Devil himselfTake me away now
But let the silence drown the beating of his heart-Arthur Brown/Edgar Allen Poe-

how do you interpret this poem from your point of view and what you know about brown and poe?
ignoring the fact that this poem is actually inspired by/based on or somehow related to Poe's 'The Tell-Tale Heart';
it tells of the misery of a man
his nervousness
his fear
his paranoia
his guilt
all these, because of a cold body lying in front of him.
because of what he had done.
he knows but no longer cares what he deserves.
and in the end, he lets his own guilt consume him.
